Robot Kits
1. Boe-Bot
2. Sumo Robot
1. Boe-Bot -- Order Serial Version #28132, USB Version #28832
DESCRIPTION: The Boe-Bot is built on a high-quality brushed
aluminum chassis that provides a sturdy platform for the servo motors
and printed circuit board. Mounting holes and slots may be used to add
custom robotic equipment. The rear wheel is a drilled polyethylene ball
held in place with a cotter pin. Wheels are machined to fit precisely on
the servo spline and held in place with a small screw.
The
Boe-Bot's flexibility stems from the fact that it's a rolling Board of
Education. All I/O projects are built on the breadboard. The Board of
Education (and BS2-IC) may be removed to be used as your platform
for the other Stamps in Class curriculum. The robot may be programmed
to follow a line, solve a maze, follow light, or communicate with another
robot by following the instruction of the Robotics text v1.5.
Extra activities which may require additional parts for your Boebot
include: making your Boe-Bot talk with a speech board, maze contests,
line following, interfacing direction sensors, and using RF modules and
video/camera equipment to build a Video-Bot.
2. Sumo Robot --- Order #27400

If you think one robot is interesting, wait until you see two of them battling
for control Sumo-style. The new SumoBot is a competition-ready robot
designed within the Northwest Robot Mini-Sumo Tournament rules. This
little pusher will locate and knock its opponent right out of the ring
while
detecting the outside circle should an escape move be necessary. The
electronics consists of a surface-mounted BASIC Stamp 2, infrared
sensors to detect your opponent and the edge of the Sumo Ring. The
hardware package includes the black anodized aluminum chassis and
scoop, servo motors, wheels, 4AA power pack (batteries not included)
mounting standoffs and screws. The documentation takes you from basic
moves to one-on-one combat.

Sumo Robot Competition Kit with Ring ---- Order #27402
The Penguin robot is a precision-machined 4h tall biped with an embedded
BASIC Stamp 2px24
microcontroller. Similar to his larger cousin the Toddler, the Penguin
walks forward with a
tilt-stride action and turns by sweeping both feet on the ground in opposite
directions. This
basic biped design works best in the Penguinfs small scale. The Penguinfs
parts have a
close-tolerance fit and are designed to make use of precise electronic
control. Set aside
three hours to assemble a Penguin.
Writing code for the Penguin is quite easy. First, the servo center and tilt/stride limits are set
and written to EEPROM using the Penguin-ServoCalibration. bpx program. Subsequent programs
use the values stored in EEPROM, making it easy to share Penguin code without
having to adjust
servo PULSOUT constants in each program. Sensors are added into the subroutines,
and a direction of travel is executed by assigning a value to the WALK variable (forward, back,
left or right). Sensors are monitored between walking movements, without the headache of
linking walking movements being handled by the rest of the PBASIC program.
The Penguin robot performs best on your desk or other hard surfaces. It
is not designed for
long-distance adventuring across thick carpet, but a tight, low-pile carpet
is an acceptable
walking surface. The Penguinfs electronics are fully assembled and wired to an assortment of
sensors and output devices.
